Sixteen-year-old Seph McCauley has spent the past three years getting kicked out of one exclusive private school after another. And it's not his attitude that’s the problem. It’s the trail of magical accidents—lately, disasters—that follow in his wake. Seph is a wizard, orphaned and untrained--and his powers are escalating out of control.
After causing a tragic fire at an after-hours party, Seph is sent to the Havens, a secluded boys’ school on the coast of Maine. At first, it seems like the answer to his prayers. Gregory Leicester, the headmaster, promises to train Seph in magic and initiate him into his mysterious order of wizards. But Seph's enthusiasm dampens when he learns that training comes at a steep cost, and that Leicester plans to use his students' powers to serve his own dangerous agenda.

I read this book partly in the car through Texas and then finished it at my Aunt and Uncle's house. Cinda Williams Chima just seems to provide good traveling books for me. ;)
Anyway...Chima has yet again enthralled me with her brilliant storytelling. Seph's story has absolutely been my favorite so far. Sure, Jack's was pretty awesome (with the swords/fighting and what not), but this one was just hilarious! Especially in the beginning-
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When Seph had to go swimming in that cold lake, and he accidentally made it heat up to a sauna temperature. The way everybody reacted was priceless. If that was made into a movie...oh, my. I would be rofling! (rolling on the floor laughing)
Yet again, in The Wizard Heir, we see great character development not only on the new cast, but also on the previous cast (Jack, Ellie, Hastings, Linda, etc.). We find out some secrets about Hastings and someone else *cough cough* that really took be by surprise.
So, all in all, a really good book. But just one question - where's D'Orsay?
